Abstract
The Council for International Organizations of Medical Sciences (CIOMS) and the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) in India play pivotal roles in the global and national frameworks for pharmacovigilance, the science of detecting, assessing, understanding, and preventing adverse drug reactions (ADRs). CIOMS provides international guidelines that harmonize pharmacovigilance practices across countries, promoting patient safety and public health. In India, the CDSCO, under the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, oversees the implementation of pharmacovigilance through the Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (PvPI). This program monitors drug safety, ensures regulatory compliance, and enhances the reporting of ADRs. Collaboration between CIOMS and CDSCO has strengthened India’s pharmacovigilance system, aligning it with global standards and ensuring that drugs on the market are continuously monitored for safety. This abstract highlight the critical roles of CIOMS and CDSCO in advancing pharmacovigilance and ensuring the safe use of medicines in India.
