Abstract

The Council for International Organizations of Medical Sciences (CIOMS) and the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) in India play crucial roles in advancing pharmacovigilance, the science dedicated to the detection, assessment, understanding, and prevention of adverse drug reactions (ADRs). CIOMS provides international guidelines and frameworks that harmonize pharmacovigilance practices across countries, facilitating global cooperation in drug safety monitoring. In India, CDSCO is the national regulatory authority responsible for drug safety, overseeing the Pharmacovigilance Programme of India (PvPI). This program is integral to monitoring ADRs and ensuring the safe use of medicines across the country. The collaboration between CIOMS and CDSCO has significantly strengthened India’s pharmacovigilance system, aligning it with global standards and improving the quality and reliability of drug safety data. This partnership enhances the protection of public health by ensuring that potential risks associated with pharmaceuticals are promptly identified and managed, ultimately contributing to safer healthcare outcomes in India and beyond.
