Abstract

Drug and disease classification are fundamental components of medical practice and pharmacology, facilitating the organization and understanding of medications and health conditions. Drug classification involves categorizing medications based on their chemical structure, mechanism of action, therapeutic use, or legal status. Common classification systems include the Anatomical Therapeutic Chemical (ATC) classification and the Controlled Substances Act (CSA) schedule. Disease classification, on the other hand, involves organizing diseases into categories based on etiology, pathology, or affected body systems. The International Classification of Diseases (ICD) is the most widely used system globally for this purpose. These classifications are crucial for standardizing communication in healthcare, guiding treatment decisions, conducting research, and enabling the effective management of public health initiatives.
