It is our sincere hope that this Laboratory Manual of Introduction to Pharmacognosy will serve as an effective learning resource for First-Year B.Pharm. students studying under the Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) curriculum based on the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The manual is designed to provide students with a systematic and practical approach to learning the essential concepts and techniques of Pharmacognosy. It includes experiments on the morphological identification of medicinal plants, organoleptic evaluation, powder microscopy, determination of various pharmacopoeial standards, quantitative microscopy, and other laboratory procedures essential for the authentication and quality assessment of crude drugs.<\/p>\n

This manual aims to strengthen the practical foundation of students while encouraging scientific observation, analytical thinking, and adherence to good laboratory practices. Every experiment has been presented in a simple and systematic format to facilitate effective laboratory learning and help students develop the practical skills required for the identification, evaluation, and standardisation of medicinal plant materials.<\/p>\n

We believe that the knowledge and practical experience gained through this manual will strengthen students’ understanding of medicinal plants and natural products while inspiring them to pursue excellence in pharmaceutical education, research, and professional practice. We hope this manual will serve as a valuable companion during laboratory sessions and a useful reference while preparing for practical examinations, as well as a helpful teaching aid for faculty members involved in Pharmacognosy practicals.<\/p>\n
