Abstract
The Central Nervous System-I focuses on the critical structures that protect and support the brain, as well as the brain’s intricate architecture and functions. The meninges, a tri-layered protective covering, envelop the brain and spinal cord, providing both physical protection and a framework for blood vessels. The ventricles of the brain are interconnected cavities filled with cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), which cushions the brain, removes waste, and circulates nutrients. This fluid also plays a vital role in maintaining intracranial pressure. The brain itself, a highly complex organ, is composed of various regions, each with specific functions ranging from controlling basic life processes to enabling higher cognitive functions like reasoning and memory. Understanding the structure and functions of the brain, alongside the protective roles of the meninges and CSF, is essential for comprehending how the central nervous system operates to maintain homeostasis and mediate behavior.
